Sorry that I haven’t written anything for awhile. Seems like time likes to get away from me. I’ve mostly been busy trying to plan for next year. August will be here before I know it (plus all the summer school stuff that we will be working on), so I have to make sure that my Google Classroom has all the necessary assignments on it (have I ever mentioned how much I love Google Classroom for my student?) and that all the interactive assignments are lined up and ready to go.
Since we are coming up on 7th grade, things have to boost up in levels. This coming year we will be looking at 9th grade World History, plus 7th grade ELA and math, and also 8th grade science. That’s the great thing about homeschooling, the classes are all over the place. But that also makes it difficult for me as a teacher, because I have to plan for all of this. Right now, I’m working on the World History part. Since it is 9th grade, we are entering a place that I am unfamiliar with. Not only the World History part, but the whole high school level part. But then, the only thing that I am comfortable with is the ELA part. That I can do. And I think I can pull off the science stuff as well. But the math?? Well, I’m learning as we go. Often times I have to do the problems with Adian just so that I understand what it is that he is trying to do. It’s a process, I’ll tell you what.
Trying to break down these lessons, I think, is the hardest part of planning. I have to tear them apart and put them back together into my own pacing guide so that I know what we need to do and when. It’s so much more different than teaching in public where I had a group to plan with and a pacing guide already created so that all I had to do was implement it. Sometimes I miss the discussions that I had to have about what the other teachers and I were going to do, the planning and the cooperation that came with collaborative work. I have no one to collaborate with with. But, that is the choice I made when I decided to homeschool. Doing it all on my own. The funny part is, is that even though I have no one to really talk to about planning and pacing, it really is rather fun to put together lessons, upload them to Google Classroom so that there is easy access for Adian to know what we are going to do on any given day, and write them down in a paper planner so that I still have a tangible pacing guide. Crazy, I know.
So, back to being busy, as you can see, I have a lot going on (not only planning, but the whole housewife chores and everything else). That is my excuse for being MIA for the last few weeks. Hopefully, I will be able to come up with more time to continue to work on this blog. The thing that everyone show know is, that most of this blog will probably be more about homeschooling and working on other projects than my book. That is out in the world now and doing what books do. Hope you all don’t get too bored with what this blog is about to become. Thanks for staying with me.
